What are temporomandibular joint disorders

Temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD) are conditions that cause pain and dysfunction in the jaw joint and muscles.

Symptoms include clicking, locking, jaw pain, headaches, neck and upper back pain.  Physiotherapists with special training in this area will assess and treat all factors contributing to your symptoms. This includes joint mobilization and soft tissue release of the jaw, head, neck and upper back.  Postural and strengthening exercises are often helpful, along with extensive education about possible contributing factors and stress management/relaxation techniques.  We liaise closely with your dental professionals to ensure a comprehensive team approach.
